Never Ending Night [Story A Day - #1]

May 2nd, 2011 3 comments

The following is my second attempt at my first Story a Day challenge. My first attempt hit 2,000 words and I was just finishing “chapter one.” Though this one is still fairly long, 3,478 words, it is a bit more direct. I haven’t edited this so there is bound to be loads of mistakes, sorry, but I hope you can look past them and enjoy the story all the same. It came to me while I was explaining to my kids why they needed to go to sleep. Thanks for reading it.

Story A Day – Rules of Engagement [Story A Day]

May 1st, 2011 4 comments

Last year I wanted to do my own little NaNoWriMo thing, but I wasn’t really committed, and so I didn’t do anything. I’ve recently heard about another writing challenge called Story A Day. Basically “every” day in the month of May I’m going to start and finish a new story. According to the rules what I define as a story and a day is up to me. So to set things straight, I’ve defined my rules for participating in the Story A Day challenge.

  1. Write a story Monday – Friday. Saturday and Sunday will be used for a break.
  2. If a day of the week is missed due to a heavy work load the weekend may be used to “make it up”.
  3. Stories will be short stories and flash fiction due to the limited time each day.
  4. Stories will be posted on InnerThought then noted on StoryADay.
  5. Story ideas can come from my own story prompts, from StoryADay prompts, or from the various prompts from podcasts.

Since the first day of May is a Sunday I’ve decided not to write a story today, since I’ve set that as one of my rules, but instead make a declaration that I will be writing a story every (week) day this month starting tomorrow. Day 1 for me starts tomorrow and I wonder what story will come about.
