Very nice. I really liked it. Just the right amount of being descriptive without being too wordy.
Also, though I have sadly never seen Firefly (or Serenity, for that matter) the second I read the name “Nathan” I pictured Nathan Fillion, and so read the story with him in mind. Imagine my surprise when I saw your prompt photo!

Another great story. Sounds like my computer. Poor thing needs some surgery.
